A multi-brand retailer modernised its digital commerce environment with a cloud-native omnichannel platform, supporting up to 5x promotional traffic, enabling releases several times per week and reducing run-rate costs by 18–22% through right-sizing.
A multi-brand retailer operating stores, e-commerce and marketplace channels across multiple regions, with growing digital demand and increasingly complex requirements for real-time inventory, order and customer experiences.
Online demand increased sharply during promotions, but the existing data-centre environment depended on manual capacity changes and could not scale consistently with demand. Traffic spikes during peak periods routinely tested the limits of infrastructure that had been sized for average, not peak, load.
Customer, product, inventory and order data were distributed across separate platforms, creating delayed stock visibility and inconsistent experiences across channels. Release windows were also infrequent because infrastructure provisioning, security approvals and rollback planning were largely manual, slowing the pace at which new features and fixes could reach customers.
TECEZE established a cloud-native architecture designed to support digital commerce at scale while retaining selected store systems through secure hybrid connectivity. Automation, API-led integration and event streaming were introduced to improve operational agility and near-real-time data visibility.
The approach included:
Established a secure cloud landing zone with segmented accounts, identity federation, policy controls, central logging and automated guardrails.
Re-platformed the digital commerce workload onto managed Kubernetes and cloud-native data services while retaining selected store systems through secure hybrid connectivity.
Introduced API-led integration across inventory, pricing, loyalty and order management, supported by event streaming for near-real-time updates across channels.
Implemented infrastructure as code, automated deployment pipelines, autoscaling, backup, disaster recovery and cost governance using tagging and FinOps dashboards.
The transformation combined cloud-native infrastructure with a modern DevOps and observability toolchain to support secure, automated, and cost-aware delivery at scale:
| Category | Components |
|---|---|
| Cloud & Compute | AWS or Azure landing zone, managed Kubernetes, containerised microservices |
| Integration & Data | API gateway, Kafka-compatible event streaming, PostgreSQL, Redis, object storage and CDN |
| CI/CD & Deployment | Terraform, GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps, Argo CD |
| Security & Quality | SonarQube, Trivy |
| Monitoring & Cost Governance | Datadog or Azure Monitor, CloudHealth/FinOps dashboards, ServiceNow |
“The cloud transformation has given our digital channels the scalability and flexibility needed to handle promotional demand more effectively. Faster releases, better data visibility and stronger cost controls have improved how we operate across our retail channels.”
VP of Digital & E-Commerce
TECEZE worked with the retailer’s technology and business teams to modernise digital commerce while maintaining connectivity with selected store systems. The engagement combined cloud architecture, application modernisation, integration, automation, security and FinOps practices to establish a scalable foundation for omnichannel operations.
The cloud-native architecture provides a foundation for continued expansion across digital commerce and connected retail operations. The retailer can build on the established autoscaling, event-driven integration, automated delivery and FinOps capabilities as transaction volumes, channels and digital services continue to evolve.
